Albania, 1991–2025

Argyris Dinopoulos covered Albania across thirty-four years, from the first multi-party elections of 1991 to those of 11 May 2025. At the first he was working for ERT and for SKAI 100.4 FM; at the second, for Antenna (ANT1).

In between, in 1996 he took a camera inside the Burrel prison, recording the testimony of men who had survived the Hoxha regime; in 1997 he returned for the unrest in the south, in Vlorë and Sarandë, where the collapse of the pyramid schemes had left armed insurrection in its wake.

The order of the photographs is his own, and half of it he has paired: 1991 against 2025.

After the collapse of the communist regime Argyris Dinopoulos was among the first foreign journalists to go to Albania, and from then on carried out a series of assignments in the country.

In 1991, as correspondent for ERT and SKAI 100.4 FM, he covered the first multi-party elections and — thirty-four years later — as Antenna's correspondent, the elections of 11 May 2025, which returned Edi Rama the winner for a fourth consecutive contest.

Afterwards, always as Antenna's correspondent, he reported on Enver Hoxha's maximum-security prison at Burrel; in 1997–98 he covered the popular «uprising of the pyramids» against Sali Berisha; in 2005 he recorded the de-Hellenisation of Northern Epirus; and in 2025 the struggle of the Greeks of Himara to keep their properties.
