1989 · The fall of Nicolae Ceaușescu in Bucharest — his first assignment outside Greece covering a major international event.

Argyris Dinopoulos was in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, as a reporter for ERT, when Nicolae Ceaușescu was overthrown in December 1989. It was his first journalistic assignment outside Greece to cover a "great event" of the twentieth century.

The overthrow came only a few months after the Berlin Wall came down, which marked a new era in European and world history.
