1993 · Three photographs and the SKAI report, from the earthquake-struck villages of Maharashtra.

Argyris Dinopoulos, on assignment for SKAI TV, covered, together with dozens of journalists from around the world, the deadly earthquake of 30 September 1993 in western India, which levelled the villages of Maharashtra province and left more than 8,000 dead behind it.

The television crew of SKAI's then newly founded television station (as a continuation of a remarkable run by the radio station since its founding in 1988) consisted of Kostas Papadopoulos (cameraman) and Tasos Dimopoulos (sound engineer), who travelled hundreds of kilometres by road, together with Argyris Dinopoulos, to reach the earthquake-hit areas from New Delhi airport, India being an immense country.

This was then (September 1993) the first journalistic assignment of SKAI television outside Greece to a dramatic event of international interest, a move that set the first mark of the purely news character of the station as it became established in the decades that followed.
