1993 · The deadly earthquake in western India, and SKAI television's first assignment abroad.

As correspondent for SKAI television, Argyris Dinopoulos covered — along with dozens of journalists from around the world — the deadly earthquake of 30 September 1993 in western India, which levelled the villages of Maharashtra province and left more than 8,000 dead.

The crew of SKAI's television arm, newly founded at the time as the continuation of a striking run by the radio station since its founding in 1988, was made up of the cameraman Kostas Papadopoulos and the sound recordist Tasos Dimopoulos, who drove hundreds of kilometres with Dinopoulos to reach the earthquake zone from the airport at New Delhi, India being a vast country.

It was, in September 1993, SKAI television's first journalistic assignment outside Greece to a dramatic event of international interest — a move that gave the first indication of the purely news character the television station would establish in the decades that followed.
