1992 · The CNN seminar for just ten journalists — and the first computer he bought on returning home.
In 1992, for three months (March, April and May), Argyris Dinopoulos, as a journalist of ERT, attended television-journalism seminars at CNN's headquarters in Atlanta, in the United States.
He was chosen from among journalists across the world working at television networks (ERT among them) that took part in producing CNN's World Report.
It was Ted Turner's own idea, at a moment when CNN had acquired international standing after covering the Gulf war of 1991.
That war had already been recorded in the history of journalism as the first war carried "live on television" (by analogy, the Vietnam war is regarded as the first "television war").
The seminar group was a small one (just ten people), and Argyris Dinopoulos (who at that time was working in Greece for SKAI 100.4 FM and also for the newspaper Apogevmatini alongside ERT) noticed that "everywhere in CNN there were computer terminals".
In those years, in almost every Greek newspaper, journalists were still using typewriters.
On his return Argyris Dinopoulos bought his first computer, with Volkswriter as its built-in software.
