1999 · Four photographs from Nairobi — three of the wait outdoors, and one from inside.
As Antenna's correspondent, Argyris Dinopoulos covered the Öcalan affair in Nairobi, Kenya, in February 1999 — that is, the transfer of the Kurdish leader to the Greek embassy in Nairobi, his arrest by the Turkish secret services, and also the "extraction" of Öcalan's three women colleagues from the Greek embassy building.
The small group of Greek journalists who were in Nairobi in those critical days acted also as a "publicity shield" for the safety of the three women, since the (not all that unfounded) rumours were rife that the arrest of Öcalan's three colleagues was being planned too, either by the Kenyan secret services or by a fresh commando operation by men of the Turkish secret service.
Argyris Dinopoulos's personal friendship with Savvas Kalenderidis, who had undertaken to accompany the Kurdish leader and his three close colleagues to Kenya, also dates from then.
