1992–1996 · Two photographs, both from the January 1995 assignment — at the Siwa oasis and in Cairo.
In the 1990s Argyris Dinopoulos travelled to Egypt to cover, as correspondent first for SKAI 100.4 FM and then for Antenna, two tragic events: the great earthquake in Cairo on 12 October 1992, and the murderous attack (18 dead) on Greek tourists on 18 April 1996.
But in January 1995, in Egypt again as correspondent for Antenna, this time, however, at the Siwa oasis, he also covered a matter of particular Greek interest.
The archaeologist Liana Souvaltzi had announced at that time (January 1995) that she had discovered, at the Siwa oasis, the tomb of Alexander the Great. The special mission of the Ministry of Culture, however, which hurried to Egypt at once to check her announcement, rejected Liana Souvaltzi's claims.
The exclusive television interview with Liana Souvaltzi that Argyris Dinopoulos obtained at that time in Cairo (with the help of his colleague Christos Zambounis) came as a surprise, given that the archaeologist was avoiding publicity (in those days when the mission of the Greek Ministry of Culture was also in Egypt) and would not make known where she was staying in Cairo.
